ASA NYC September Meeting -- The Subprime Mortgage Market Debacle

The guest speakers will be Chapter President Mark E. Atkinson, ASA, Director at Navigant Capital Advisors, and Bruce Klein, Director at Navigant Consulting, where he specializes in the areas of commercial credit and lending, real estate finance, and mortgage backed securities. Their talk, The Subprime Mortgage Market Debacle, will provide an overview of the subprime market, focusing on how mortgage assets are securitized into investment grade bonds, discussing the process, the participants, and the role of rating agencies. The recent liquidity problems at Wall Street brokers Bear Stearns, and Goldman Sachs, and the collapse of mortgage brokers Ameriquest, New Century, NovaStar and others -- all attributed to subprime mortgage woes -- are effecting not just the housing market but the global economy.
